There is still so much work to do - in terms of ramping up improved transition programs. It may depend on branch of service - responsibilities or even location. The nonprofit I work with enrolls many active duty into their transition program. Of course we do hear about those who want to participate and are not allowed. i do encourage other veterans and active duty who believe in educational career and life transition programs to share their knowledge and to press those they know - who will listen to give many of these programs a chance.

Thank you for your comments and your service to our country.

First,

Please let me commend you for your honesty about this struggle. It sounds like you have experienced tremendous frustration and pain and you are a loving, caring parent.

Second I wish to express that I do not work with any government agency and this am unable to solve the problem. Having said that I do believe in making efforts to change systems that do not work. I contract with a local nonprofit in San Diego. They have the perspective that any veteran is worthy of the program if that veteran is ready for transition work. They do not ask if someone was honorably discharged or dishonorably discharged. They even accepted a Vietnam Veteran who had never really planted career seeds in the way he wished. What they are not capable of handling would be someone who needs alcohol or drug treatment or someone with severe PTSD. One of the recent discussions has been on building an effective referral network. I am not sure what city or state you are in - (and forgive me if you have tried all these routes before) but have you looked into private or nonprofit programs – not associated with the government? Sometimes the programs – and even ones not specifically designed for veterans – but designed to help heal anyone – can be productive and healing.

Well said. I agree that we all have brands - and that while we can manage them - we cannot always create them. What I mean by that is that they exist on others' minds.
Hi Brad, I found your alrcite informative and entertaining, and agree with your thoughts and comments. It seems to point out out however, that I have gone about building my business in in all the wrong way. I created a legal entity company for the express purpose of an umbrella,or holding, company. My intention was/is to create other businesses with their own domains, but funnel any profits (if any) to the holding company. I guess you could call it conglomerate wannabe, even though no of the sites were expected to ,make much money. How would you deal with branding there?
